I was completely sucked into Reckless within the
first few paragraphs of chapter 1 and completely shut the real world out so
that I could give my full attention to Jax and Riley. I should first say that I
am a sucker for a bad boy. A bad boy with tattoos that fronts a rock band AND
rides a motorcycle? What’s another word for perfect? Because that is Jax in a
nutshell.
When we first meet Riley, she’s out with a friend
at what I took to be kind of a local dive bar with live music. She gives off
the impression of a no strings attached party girl. When the band takes the
stage and the entire place comes alive - and ladies seem to orgasm from the lead
singer’s voice alone - we are intrigued right along with Riley. When the lead
singer seemingly chooses her out of the crowd and approaches her, I held my
breath. I felt the chemistry oozing off the page and setting it on fire. When
they meet backstage and their interaction is both turbulent and sexually
charged I knew I was a goner.
I loved the twist that the girl I assumed was a
party girl is in fact an accountant! Riley is a tour accountant and will be on
the road for a few weeks with one of the hottest rock bands around. We also
learn close to the same time that the aforementioned lead singer isn’t just
part of some local rock band but in fact the front man of the same band
she’ll be touring with. When these two reconnect on the tour bus their simmering
passion is like a volcano waiting to erupt. When it does …well Jax just melts
your heart (and panties) right along with Riley’s.
I loved Riley’s sass and her (failed) attempts to
keep her relationship with the sexy rock God, Jax, professional. I loved how
broken Jax was and that something in Riley makes him want to heal. Together
they need each other for balance and to keep them whole. It is as if they can’t
fully exist as a whole person without the other. As if all this time they’ve
simply been biding time until they found each other.
When Jax opens up to Riley in a way that he never has before, wheels are set in motion that could forever change them as individuals, a couple and the fate of their future is put in jeopardy. I have no doubt that whatever adversity and danger these two face in the rest of the series, their love and commitment to each other will persevere.
