Greyson King…
My boyfriend. My friend. My protector. He’s the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and the reason I fall asleep limp, worn out, and aching for his warm arms around me. When we make love, he says my name like it means something. Like I mean something.
He
Lied.
His name is Greyson King, but his alias is Zero.
There’s zero trace of him, he has zero past, and now I know that with him, I will have zero future.
He may leave no trace of him anywhere, but his imprint is in me, in my very soul—and I hate that a mere look at him commands the beat of my heart. The temperature of my body.
I’ve looked for love my entire life. I’ve waited for the butterflies, the rainbows…
Instead I’m in a free fall of emotions and there’s no one to catch me but the one man I should be running away from. The one man I thought was my prince charming.
Except this prince charming went rogue.
Greyson will stop at nothing to make me be with him. He'll let no one stand in our way, will allow no one to threaten me, and maybe this is what scares me most of all...
What will my rogue do to keep me?
I knew to expect some serious hotness in any and everything
Katy Evans writes, but as far as a new book boyfriend, I wasn't sure what was
coming. I mean she already created these
characters that are completely different from anything else out there, and she
carved their names in our hearts, so I couldn't wait to see what she'd come up
with in ROGUE. We know Melanie, Brooke's
best friend and perpetual sunshine from the REAL series, but what about our new
man? What's he like? The short answer: He's freaking hot. Now, let me get down to why.
Greyson King is tall, hot and built--praise the angels!--but
he's also wicked smart, ruthless and kinda scary. Lucky for me, I love all of these
qualities. As an obsessive fan of movies
like The Godfather and shows like Sons of Anarchy, I can totally do
scary; the bad boy inside the good man who will freaking take you out if you
mess with what's his is one of my favorites.
Horse heads don't put me off; that's just my brand of sicko (so keep
that in mind for later). Beneath
Greyson's scary, I'll-put-a-knife-through-your-throat-at-20-paces persona
though is a big, fat tender heart, albeit it's surrounded by barbed wire. If
you want to get close to Greyson, basically you can forget it--unless you're
Melanie.
The gist of the story is this (without giving you too many
spoilers): Greyson happens upon Melanie at an Underground fight and can't let
her go (even though they never met and she has no idea), then he finds out that
he has a debt to collect and Melanie's involved. So, how does he get what he needs from her,
protect her, and keep her in the dark all at the same time? He knows he shouldn't get involved, but he
just can't seem to help himself. As for
Melanie, she's got a debt to pay, she's scared to death, and she's trying to
still maintain her very Giselle-like persona (you remember Giselle, right? Think Enchanted; she's one of my
all-time favorite Disney princesses) and outlook on life.
Melanie's a dreamer.
She believes (or desperately wants to) in true love; she believes that her
prince will come, that life will be perfect.
She wants a fairytale. She wants
Brooke's life (which I think we all know, as awesome as Remy is, is not a
fairytale, but it is amazing in its own way).
What she gets is Greyson; but I have to say, Greyson is so much better
than some boring, Disney-fied prince.
He's sweet, thoughtful, hot, totally devoted and dirty (and did I
mention scary?).
What I liked about this book the most: the characters. I loved Melanie in the REAL series. She's funny, bright, carefree and an
amazingly loyal friend; but the Melanie we get in ROGUE is so much more
complex. She's still all of the things I
mentioned before, but she's shaded in, she's three-dimensional. We see her fears, her sadness, her
determination and pride, the intense love she has for her family, and her
dedication to making sure that they get what they want from her life, that she
makes them happy and proud. She's not the happy-go-lucky girl we met in
REAL, not entirely, but happy, funny and hopeful are still her over-riding
qualities. So, I love Melanie, I wanted
to protect Melanie, and most of all, I really, really wanted things to work out
for her because she deserves some serious goodness. Sure, she gets in her own way some times, but
in believable ways, in ways that you knew Melanie authentically would behave.
And Greyson. Good
Lord. Ever heard that song "Please,
Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths? That's the song that played in my head over
and over when Greyson graced my pages. I
so wanted him to get what he wanted, and honestly, I didn't care what he had to
do get there--lie, kill cheat, steal--I didn't care (see, there's my horse-head
sickness rearing its head again). I just
wanted Greyson to get what he wanted for once, and I didn't want anyone,
including Melanie, judging him for it.
My Jax Teller obsession kicked in big time and Greyson reaped the
benefits. If Greyson's listening, let me
just say: There's nothing to forgive!
Come to mama!
So, when we came to that crucial point (you'll know it when
you get there), I was fighting mad. I
mean, I don't care who he had to whack to get where he is, no one puts Greyson
in the corner. Know what I mean? And then I was screaming,
"Nooooooo!" and then crying a
little, and then crying happy tears.
That's what Katy Evans does to me, and she'll do it to you, too.
There's not a moment of boring in this book. You'll be turning pages and checking to see
what percentage you're at because you'll be silently praying that you're not near
done, that you'll get more of Melanie and Greyson. But if you're hoping Greyson King is recycled
Remy, get over it. Katy has someone
totally new for you to love. Go back and
re-read REAL if you need your Remy fix, but open your arms to Greyson. Invite him in, get him a beer, and get ready
to fall in love.
Katy Evans grew up with book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love, married him, and now they are hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches "The End." Which, is hopefully, only the beginning...
Every woman wants me--except the one I sing for.
Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about Crack Bikini being in town.
But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise.
Any man with half a brain should know..
So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?
Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.
When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like
I'm a god--but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.
Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.
That's alright.
Let her come at me. Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.
