NEW RELEASE & REVIEW - Yanked (Frenched #1.5) by Melanie Harlow

Mia Devine fell hard for Lucas Fournier after their magical week in Paris. But eight months later, the free-spirited half-French musician still hasn't made any promises about their future. And as magnifique as long-distance phone sex is, nothing compares to the real thing.

Fed up with stolen weekends and lonely nights, Mia flies to New York armed with a list of reasons why they should take the next step, but an unexpected guest in Lucas's apartment derails her plans. He’s been keeping secrets--worse, he claims he's happy with the way things are.

Without the magic of Paris, can their mismatched love survive?

**WARNING: This review may contain slight spoilers for Frenched. You need to read the first book before reading this novella**

Yanked picks up eight months after Frenched. Mia and Lucas are as hot as ever. They are currently in a long distance relationship with her in Detroit and him in New York. Mia talks about their fantastic phone sex and we get to see her and Lucas talk on the phone and all is good…

“You know, sometimes I just want to leave our phone connection open all night just so if I wake up, I could hear you breathing.”
“Really? That makes me happy.”
“Good. I want to make you happy, Mia. Every day.”

But Mia can only let it go for so long. We all know with her Type-A personality she needs to know exactly what is in their future. We know from Frenched that Lucas doesn’t want to get married or have kids. Is it wrong that Mia does? Or does Lucas want the same thing?

“Say you still love me.”
“What?”
“Say you forgive me. Say it, Mia. I can’t lose you. Say you still love me.”

I loved seeing Mia and Lucas again. I really missed them! Melanie Harlow’s writing is fantastic and this was a sweet little follow-up to their story. I didn’t realize how much we needed to see their story truly wrap up. They’re one of the sexiest couples have I have ever met and I didn’t want the novella to end.

“And then I’m going to devote the rest of the night to making sure you know exactly hwoe much I love you. How much I need you. How much I want you. And if you don’t have at least three orgasms in the process, I’ll have to start all over again tomorrow.”

So. Much. Sexiness. I loved every minute of it. Lucas is as sweet and hot as ever. Mia is as funny and gorgeous as ever. I know the synopsis sounds scary, but everyone who loves Lucas and Mia still needs to read this.

“What I’m trying to say is, there’s no perfect life without you. In fact, I no longer dream about a “perfect life”. I only dream about a life without you.”

When Tucker Branch, playboy heir to Branch Bolt and Screw, screws and bolts a week before their wedding, Mia Devine wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity. But her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, so Mia grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of her luxurious Paris honeymoon—alone.

She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.

The easygoing bartender’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.

Nor is the simultaneous O.

The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy la vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with Lucas is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.

Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

I am so, so, so happy that Laurelin Paige gifted me an ARC of Frenched! I’ve read Melanie Harlow’s other two works—a historical romance series set in the Roaring 20s, but this definitely takes the cake as my favorite Melanie Harlow book. It’s definitely one of my favorite books, actually. And how could it not be? With the Paris setting, the high-maintenance Mia, the swoon-worthy Lucas, the hilarious inner monologue, and of course the super-hot sexy times. This was the quick, romantic read that I had been looking for.

“It means you can enjoy yourself with him without worrying about a relationship. It means you can have amazing, guilt-free sex because there are no expectations. It means no one cares if this is just a rebound fuck fling, so enjoy it while it lasts and then go home and move on with your real life. Yes. I could do that. I could totally do that. Couldn’t I?”

I seriously loved everything about this book. Mia cracked me up so much. She’s one of those girls who plan everything and loves to make lists. So it was really depressing to see what happened to her after her fiancĂ© broke up with her in a text right before their huge wedding. But, her friends convince her to take their honeymoon trip to Paris by herself because it’s already all paid for. After one day, she’s ready to give up—the city is too romantic for her.

But, she meets Lucas in a Canadian bar where he is bartending. It took me a day to fall in love with Lucas too. He reads her so well, he’s smart, he knows what she needs even when she doesn’t, he’s a gentleman, he’s half French and half American, and he’s just too sexy.

““Yes. You’re amazing. I mean, aside from your insane drive to plan out every minute detail of your life from birth to death, you’re the most fun person I’ve ever been with. And you’re beautiful and smart and funny and Christ, you’re hot in bed.”

Lucas decides to be Mia’s tour guide to convince her to stay in Paris. They’re so cute with the way they go explore the city. It made me miss Paris for sure. But most importantly, we get to see their relationship grow. And it’s pretty funny watching them both try to skirt around the sexual attraction that’s so obviously there.

“It was pretty fucking perfect. So perfect that I began to feel uneasy about the peace I’d made with the fact that this thing with Lucas, whatever it was, had to end soon. So perfect that every time he opened his mouth to speak I held my breath, hoping he’d mention something about seeing me again.”

All their love scenes? Had me burning up. Wow, I totally didn’t see all that sexiness coming. If I didn’t love Lucas before they had sex for the first time, the way he is in bed would have totally done me in. Frenched was totally unrealistic with the way they fell in love in a freaking week. But did I care? Hell no. You can’t help but root for them to be together the entire time. I found myself wanting to bash their heads together at times with the way they avoiding the topic of what they so desperately felt for each other.

“He was teaching me things about my body and desires I’d never known. He was teaching me about the beauty of living for the moment. He was teaching me not to worry so much about what things looked like, what other people thought, what I thought I should be. I loved who I was when I was with him. And I loved him.”

But alas, by the end I was more than satisfied (well, not as satisfied as Mia, of course). This was a perfect light, short, romantic read for those looking to fall in love in the City of Love. I seriously need more of them. And usually I hate sequels. So, Melanie Harlow, if you’re reading this, give me more Lucas and Mia dammit.

“I wanted to tell you how much this entire week with you has meant to me. No seven days have ever felt so short, and yet they made me feel as if I’ve known you for much longer. Time is a strange thing when you’re in love. And I love you. So much.”

Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her lipstick red, and her history with the naughty bits left in. She's a 20th century fanatic and gets her kicks from historical fiction and TV series like Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, Deadwood, Mad Men, and Downtown Abbey (although she wishes it were more HBO and less PBS).
