New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover returns with a heart-stopping new series… Welcome to the Point.
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.
PRE-ORDER
I can’t really tell you what my thought process was (as to
what I was expecting) when I started reading Better When He’s Bad by Jay Crownover. However, I certainly didn’t
go into being prepared to learn the difference between being bad and a bad guy.
Oh yes, my friend. Bax is going to teach you there is a
difference.
“My name is Shane Baxter, Bax to most people, and I’m a thief. Got a
girl? I’ll take her from you. Got a sweet ride you dropped a mint on? I’ll take
it from you. Got expensive electronics you think are safe? I’ll come and take
them, because you probably didn’t need them anyway.”
I will warn you – Do not pick up Better When He’s Bad thinking it will be like Jay Crownover’s
previous work with The Marked Men Series.
It is TOTALLY different. You really can’t even compare the two series. Is there
still romance? Yes. But it’s not the only focal point. Are there still hot
tattooed boys? Yes. But these tattooed
boys aren’t loveable tattoo artists…
“Nothing ruined a mellow, postorgasm mood like dealing with a bunch of
clueless idiots and the thought of losing some teeth.” – Bax
What I really loved about Bax was he was like a breath of
fresh air, because he felt REAL. There’s no love at first sight when he meets
Dovie like she was the one thing he’d be waiting for all of his life. Jay
Crownover is very good at making relationships between her character feel REAL.
We all love a good romance book to cuddle up with, but most of the time the
relationships between the characters are very much fantasy.
When Bax first meets Dovie she is seen as more of a pest
then his love interest. Slowly but surely their relationship grows from there as
she won’t give up trying to help him find her brother (who is also Bax’s
best-friend), Race.
“I blinked like an idiot. No one ever got the drop on me. No ever, and
this girl, who looked like she should be out on a farm, sure as hell shouldn’t
have been able to be the first one to do it.”
Something else that totally took me by surprise was the
suspense level in this book! The suspense level is CRAZY! You don’t know what
Bax and Dovie are going to walk into next and where the story is going. There
are no obvious clues as to where Race is hiding and why he went into hiding, or
what kind of trouble they are going to get into trying to find him.
I don’t want to give any spoilers away but in the final
showdown there is a complete what the fuck moment that is so unexpected crazy but
is subtle enough that you are sitting there like ‘Wait! Did I miss this
somewhere? Should I have known this already?!’
I promise you do not want to miss out on Bax. As much as I
love my marked men, this is Jay’s best work.
