REVIEW - Out of Breath by Rebecca Donovan

Emma leaves Weslyn and everyone in it behind to attend Stanford University, just as she always intended. A shell of her former self, she is not the same girl. She is broken, and the only way that she’ll be whole again is through forgiveness. Emma must find a way to forgive herself and recognize her own worth before she can receive the love she deserves. This final installment will have readers holding their breath until the very last page.

After the two insane, shocking, and very emotional clilffhangers from the first two books in the Breathing series, I was definitely scared to pick up Out of Breath. I couldn’t bear to have my heart torn to shreds again by the train wreck that is Emma and Evan. I was actually legitimately worried that they wouldn’t end up together in the end, and that they would spend the rest of their lives faking their way through life. Because the kind of love that Emma and Evan have is the forever, soul-shattering kind that no one gets over. Ever. Including us readers. No wonder we had to wait so long for Out of Breath because it was a masterpiece. Absolutely breathtaking. No pun intended. Be a little scared to read it, because it is truly emotional and not like anything you ever expected. But, it is so worth it in the end. And even in the middle. The journey is beautiful. You go in thinking you want a certain thing to happen, but then Rebecca Donovan makes you wait and gives you another thing. And the amazing thing is that you’re not angry or disappointed at the new direction, you just go along for the ride and hope that you’re not completely devastated at the end.

Like everyone else, I have to praise the way Rebecca Donovan did the alterhanting POVs for Emma and Evan. I didn’t even know that it waws going to be a dual POV book. I saw the italicic coming up and  I assumed it was a flashback, however, Rebecca Donovan does an amazing job of making it clear that the italics is indeed Evan’s POV. And she manages to mae it very clear whose mind we’re in even with the constant switches. They are flawless.. When I came across the first one I was like, “No way—is this? Nu uh. It switched?! Ahhh Evan!” Then my girl crush on Rebecca Donovan intensified. She’s a gutsy writer, but she always manages to pull it off. Out Of Breath is no different. It is unique, it is awe-inspiring, and it is brililant. Sorry, there really isn’t much else to say beseides how much I loved Emma and Evan and that my heart broke for them so many times in this book. Oh, I also love Emma’s best friend, Sara. She only made one minor slip up. I kept waiting for her to get sick of Emma and leave her, but she was always there. That’s true friendship and yet another beautiful aspect of this book. Are you sick of me praising it yet? Go read the book. It’s all true.

“I just had to remember, there was always a choice. And I chose to live. I chose to love. I chose to breathe.”

Optimism seeps from every pore of my body. I truly believe that what's supposed to happen... will! In that regard, I don't know how to give up; it's not part of my biological make up.

I'm a passionate (and some would say, overly enthusiastic) person. I learn by doing (and have been burned more times that I'd like to admit), but I will always throw my entire self into whatever I do - fail or succeed.

I think this is evident when I write, leaving nothing behind and spilling it all out on the pages. I give it all to my readers - love it or hate it.

The path I'm on is very often my own, veering off the beaten path at the sight of something more interesting or captivating, getting caught in the vines and thorns in order to experience the beauty and intrigue others often pass by. And I always meet the most interesting people along the way...
