BLOG TOUR & REVIEW - My Body-Mine by Blakely Bennett

SPOILER WARNING – Do NOT read any further if you have NOT read My Body-His and My Body-Marcello. This review is for My Body-Mine, the third and final book in the series.

Okay, so… here’s what happened. When Blakely Bennett released My Body-Marcello I ended up reading both My Body-His and My Body-Marcello back to back within two days.

Let me please state that this was not a wise decision and making a public service announcement not to do the same! I had to rely on Hubs for many many hugs and cuddles in the process. I was also pretty worthless after I finished the second book, as I tried to comprehend what I’d just read.

These books are intense! I repeat: Do NOT read these books back to back!

In fact, I think Blakely should put out some kind of warning label on them that you should take a breather before starting on the second or third book… maybe even find a light contemporary romance to read in in-between these books.

There is nothing light or happy romance about the first two books. They pretty much ripped just about every emotion I’ve ever experienced out of me. Hubs thought I was nuts because I’d be happy one second and then growling and wanting to throw things the next.

We FINALLY get some happy romance (still not very light-hearted…) in the third book. But it really and truly was worth the horrible heartbreak Blakely puts us through with Jane and Luke’s relationship in the first two books to see what finally develops for Jane in the third.

My Body-Marcello leaves us at the point where Jane has pretty much hit rock bottom. Luke has abandoned her, she has tried to commit suicide and now is pretty much forced to live with Marcello, the one person she swore she’d have nothing to do with.

However, My Body-Mine starts us off by meeting a new and improved Jane. Or at least in my eyes, I find her to be a new and improved Jane because we begin to worry about her and the choices she makes (or the repercussions of her choices from Luke) like we did in the first two books. She’s stronger and has a better head on her shoulders. She is also more driven in terms of going after what she wants and being vocal when she has a problem with something.

We also get to know our secondary characters, Marcello and Janice a little bit better. I actually came to like these characters in the second book, so I’m not going to say we meet a new side of them really, but we get a lot more time with them in this new light that was shed on them in My Body-Marcello.

While I did finally find some love for Marcello (it was hard to, but I did), it was nothing compared to the love I found for our new hero, Chase.

Umm… Luke who?

Chase comes into Jane’s life as she’s trying to move on from Luke and get her feet on solid ground again. She really has no desire to get into a relationship with anyone (other then the one she has committed herself to with Marcello) and makes these things very clear to Chase from the beginning.

Does this stop Chase from actively pursuing her (mainly through Facebook chat)? Of course not. And that’s why there’s no helping helping myself from falling in love with him as a possible book boyfriend.

Watching Jane and Chase slowly build their relationship was swoon worthy. Although Chase understands Jane’s relationship issues and that position she is in, he offers her a lot of patience in his pursuit of her. But what happens to his understanding and patience when Luke resurfaces?

Throughout the whole series I felt like Jane was one of my best friends just sitting there beside me pouring her heart out. I still felt the same in this last book of the trilogy. This last installment did not require Hubs to sit by myself side and hold my hand the whole time. It was a wonderfully peaceful conclusion to Jane’s story.

I strongly encourage everyone to go on this emotional roller-coaster ride that is called the My Body Trilogy. It so beautifully written and will take you to such very high highs and very low lows that you can’t help but get addicted to it. Although, I still STRONGLY encourage you NOT to read them back to back! I’m just putting that out there…

Blakely Bennett grew up in Southeast Florida and has been residing in the great Northwest for over seven years. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a degree in psychology, which accounts for her particular interest in crafting the personalities, struggles, and motivations of her characters. She is an avid reader of many genres of fiction, but especially erotica and romance. Writing has always been her bliss.

She is attracted to stories of self-struggle and ultimate recovery. Blakely is married to a wonderful, loving and supportive husband, also a writer, who helps to keep her grounded. She is a mother, a communitarian, a lover of music (always on while she is writing—thank you, Pandora), and a good friend.

An advocate of love and female empowerment, she is a facilitator for a women’s group. She loves to walk and hike for exercise and finds that, since moving to Seattle, WA, she is now one of those “crazy” people who walk in the rain.
