BLOG TOUR & PLAYLIST - Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely

Twenty-three year old rising theatre star Jill McCormick has built a life out of pretending. Pretending she’s happy, pretending her long-distance crushes add up to something real, pretending she’s not haunted by the dark secret that shattered her world six years ago. Cast in her first Broadway show, she desperately needs to keep her façade intact, but that’s before she comes face to face with her devastating new boss…

Hot-shot director Davis Milo knows the first rule of directing: never fall for your leading lady. Captivated by Jill’s raw talent, he fights his feelings, but watching Jill on-stage with another man is more than his jealous streak can take. Keeping things professional isn’t an option. He wants all of her.

Soon the ingénue and her director are staying late in the empty theatre, their private rehearsals spiraling into new, forbidden territory. Caught up between fiction and reality, Jill struggles to find the truth in all their staged kisses. But how can she be sure that what she feels is real, and not a part of the play? And when two people spend their lives pretending, what happens after the final curtain falls?

“I have finally realized...I need to love” - the line in the song typifies Jill and Davis’ love story better than any other. Plus, this is kind of their theme song, as you’ll see in the book!

This is just an awesome song.

One of the best love songs EVER. This goes on all my playlists for my romance novels.  “More than words is all you have to do to make it real” - because you need to SHOW your love!

Um. Well. The title really fits the book. Davis does this for Jill. A LOT.

“With you I feel again.” - This sentiment is what Jill is questing for.

I love the beat of this song. The intensity. And the way it’s about full-out love realized.

Lifehouse. I love them. This is a great tune.

Broadway duets play a role in the novel, and this is probably the tops for me. I not only love the moment in Wicked when the Witch and Fyero sing this to each other, but the lyrics are so perfect since it’s about finally giving into the power of the feelings: “I've lost all resistance
And crossed some borderline.”

She’s just awesome.

One of the best happy love songs ever. This also goes on all my playlists. It’s the perfect song for a happily ever after.

This is Jill’s theme song. Nothing captures her heart better than these lyrics and the way Joss sings them. “And I'll be alright
And I'll love again
And the wounds will mend
I'm bruised but not broken
And the pain will fade
I'll get back on my feet
It's not the end of me
My heart is still open
I'm bruised but not broken”

Oh, did I say As Long As You’re Mine was the best duet ever? Sorry. This is. Steve Kazee’s voice is just magic, and this song is falling-in-love perfection.

Jill and Patrick sing this together:)

Lauren Blakely is an unabashed fan of clever jokes, toast, and good guys in novels. Like the heroine in TROPHY HUSBAND, she thinks life should be filled with hot men, cool clothes, and the kind of love that love songs promise. Lauren lives in California with her husband and children, and spends her days writing both true stories and make-believe ones.
