Jack Dalton was charismatic.
Johnny Outlaw was irresistible.
Two sides of the same man, passionate about two things—music and Holliday Hughes. With her intoxicating mix of strength and vulnerability, confidence and sex appeal, he couldn’t get enough of her.
Together, love was a storm of chaos and calm. When fame became a force to be reckoned with, could their love hold them together or would their notoriety tear them apart?
“This isn’t how our melody goes. This isn’t how we were supposed to play out.”
“Loneliness is the other side of Love. you can’t feel one without having experienced the other” - Johnny Outlaw
Those words are some of the first we read at the beginning The Reckoning and they say it all. I’ve been sitting here pondering this review, contemplating the words that would do my feelings justice. How do I articulate the level of love I have for these characters and their story? All I can do is tell you how much their story has impacted my level of emotions. It is truly beautiful and real.
The Reckoning is the continuation of Jack Dalton and Holliday Hughes’ story. A story that seems to only get more complicated and passionate as it unfolds. A love story beyond my wildest dreams. A story of lust, love, passion, jealousy, anger, frustration and commitment. A story of infinite possibilities and infinite dreams.
When we last left Dalton & Holliday they were married and had faced so much in their short relationship but managed to persevere and come together stronger. Dalton is a complicated soul, sometimes so lost and broken your own heart shatters watching him unravel. Other times, he is so driven and cocky - so Johnny Outlaw - that you are somewhat annoyed and displeased. A complicated man, Dalton/Johnny is constantly battling within himself. His love and commitment to Holliday is evident, yet his commitments to The Resistance and their fans has driven him for so long. How can he reconcile the two? He fell in love with a beautiful and confident woman that created her own success by sheer drive and talent. Can he allow her to maintain that fierce independence he finds so enthralling while trusting in her commitment to him? When everyone wants something from you or the person they believe you to be, can you simply trust the one person that promises to support and honor you for the rest of your life? Only Dalton knows the answers to those questions and his path to those answers is a rocky and complicated.
Holliday fell in love and committed to Jack Dalton and accepted that Johnny Outlaw is part of that package. The man that stole her heart and swept her off her feet has never been easy to love, he pushes her limits and tests her strength. But, the intensity of her love for him outweighs and supersedes any doubts or concerns she has. We maneuver along with Holliday as she faces some of her biggest fears and her will is tested to the max.
Through the beautiful and poignant words of S.L. Scott, we are drawn into every feeling and emotion these two characters have. We are present for the amazing passion that flows out of their love and connection. Once again, no matter what happens in their life, no matter how emotional and crazy things get they can and do come together like two souls meeting for the first time. The sexual relationship of these characters, the fact that they cannot stop touching, feeling, lusting, caring and wanting each other is beautiful. It is magic.
When outside dramas and reality are thrust upon them they must face everything with the knowledge that whatever is thrown their way, the love they have is what will always bring them back together. Regardless of the lies and the rumors, what they have together is real and all consuming. As a reader, it draws you in and makes you believe in their story. As a reader, you want them to fight - to fight each other, to fight the past, to fight the present, to fight the liars and the haters. Fight until they stand above it all with their lives as they should be - together. Together, they are infinity.

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author
New York Times and USA Bestselling Author, S. L. Scott, was always interested in the arts. She grew up painting, writing poetry and short stories, and wiling her days away lost in a good book and the movies.
With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald. She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the worlds those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones. This dynamic of leaving the reader invested in the words, inspired Scott to start writing with emotion while interjecting an underlying passion into her own stories.
Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She’s obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. She dreams of seeing one of her own books made into a movie one day as well as returning to Europe. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she’s a pro.
