A new adult novel that perfectly captures the existential
angst of your early twenties with raw wit, fresh insight, and true feeling from
a critically adored USA TODAY bestselling author.
Joshua Miles has spent his early twenties spinning his wheels. Working dead-end jobs and living at home has left him exhausted and uninspired, with little energy to pursue his passion for graphic art. Until he meets Gemma Henare, a vivacious out-of-towner from New Zealand. What begins as a one-night stand soon becomes a turning point for Josh. He can't get Gemma out of his head, even after she has left for home, and finds himself throwing caution to the wind for the first time in his life.
It's not long before Josh is headed to New Zealand with only a backpack, some cash, and Gemma's name to go on. But when he finally tracks her down, he finds his adventure is only just beginning. Equally infatuated, Gemma leads him on a whirlwind tour across the beautiful country, opening Josh up to life, lust, love, and all the messy heartache in between. Because, when love drags you somewhere, it might never let go even when you know you have to say goodbye.

What draws me to a book varies. Sometimes, it is the cover - a beautiful cover can spark interest almost immediately. Other times, it’s the synopsis - a well written synopsis can set the tone for the story, the characters and the feelings you can expect. For me and Where Sea Meets Sky, it was the title. I was intrigued and I wanted to know more. If I were take the time to really ponder the title and what it means for me, I would say that in my eyes, in my soul, where the sea meets the sky is infinite. It is a never ending point where possibilities are all that remain. It is a point on this earth that you cannot see the beginning nor the end, you are simply in the moment.
For me, as a reader, that is the feeling this title
invoked. It is the emotion I had as I began the story and what remained
throughout. Set in Canada and then New Zealand the picturesque locations drew
me in and the emotions and feelings of the story kept me grounded. I loved the
instant connection of Josh and Gemma. Their undeniable attraction was sweet and
passionate yet still believable. I found myself wondering what made each of
them who they are. How is it that two people can meet under such simple
circumstances and yet it is obvious change the path of the other? Throughout
the story I caught myself talking to both Josh and Gemma. I found myself
laughing and sometimes cursing at the obstacles thrown their way. I also found
myself cheering each of them on and crying for them both.
I love a story about individuals that must grow within
themselves before they can be anything worthy of the other. I am drawn to a
story full of angst. Yet, I must have a bit of humor and an emotional
connection to each character for all of it to work together. Where Sea Meets
Sky gave me all of that and more. Through the beautiful and strong words of
Karina Halle, I found more than a love story. I found a story that inspired me
to continue to follow my dreams. A story that reminded me that
sacrificing one’s self isn’t always about taking care of others, sometimes it’s
a way to deflect taking care of ourselves. When a book, a story, the words of
another can evoke that emotion in the reader - It is a story worth
sharing.
Where Sea Meets Sky will tug at your emotions and may make you cry a little. It will also make you smile, laugh, swoon and root for the main characters as if they are your friends. And? It’ll make you research New Zealand for your next vacation - except black-water rafting, I’ll pass on that!
