BLOG TOUR & REVIEW - Rowdy by Jay Crownover

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with this sizzling, sexy story of love, heartbreak, fate, and second chances.

After the only girl he ever loved told him that he would never be enough, Rowdy St. James knocked the Texas dust off his boots and set out to live up to his nickname. A good ol’ boy looking for good times and good friends, Rowdy refuses to take anything too seriously, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Burned by love once, he isn’t going to let himself trust a woman again. But that’s before his new co-worker arrives, a ghost from the past who’s suddenly making him question every lesson he ever learned.

Salem Cruz grew up in house with too many rules and too little fun—a world of unhappiness she couldn’t wait to forget. But one nice thing from childhood has stayed with her; the memory of the sweet, blue-eyed boy next door who’d been head over heels in love with her little sister.

Now, fate and an old friend have brought her and Rowdy together, and Salem is determined to show him that once upon a time he picked the wrong sister. A mission that is working perfectly—until the one person that ties them together appears, threatening to tear them apart for good.

Holy smexyness! Jay Crownover has done it again with Rowdy! Jay knows how to make a story super delicious and sexy. In fact – I would encourage other authors to take note of Jay’s ‘smexy scenes’ and how they’re not there just to have some ‘smexy time’ in the book, but how those scenes are there with the purpose of helping with the story and developing a deeper connection between the characters.

We’ve all known Rowdy for a while now as one of the Marked Men but now we really get to be introduced to him and fall in love with him, just like the rest of them. Jay makes Rowdy out to have just as tender of a heart as Rule, Jet, Rome and Nash. Well… maybe not as tender hearted as Nash, but trust me we fall in love Rowdy just the same.

When writers create these series that focus on a group of characters giving each one of them their own story, I worry about reading the same story over and over throughout the series because unfortunately it does happen. But Jay Crownover makes sure that is NOT the case for her Marked Man! Each character in this series is unique and Jay really knows how to bring each one of them to life as their own person with their own story to tell.

Now while each character is different and each story is different – there is an underlined theme in the series of these characters having to face their past as well as their insecurities in order to move forward. Rowdy and Salem are no different.

Rowdy believes anyone he gets close to will eventually leave him and Salem believes Rowdy is still too hung up on her sister Poppy. These feelings are sparked by the facts Salem DID leave Rowdy when he needed her the most, and Salem knows she still doesn’t have the full story about what really happened between her sister and Rowdy.

What was a little refreshing was Salem had not been introduced in the series until this book. She’s a brand new character for us to get to know. All of the other characters, both hero and heroine, have been along for everyone else’s ride. Only other character who hasn’t been there from the beginning (Rule) is Saint, but even she had some scenes in Rome and was introduced to us before we got to go on her and Nash’s journey.

If you haven’t read The Marked Men series – you seriously need to drop what you’re doing and start some 1-clicking. I guess they might be able to read as stand-alones but I strongly encourage that you don’t do that! Start with Rule and work your way to Rowdy. You will be missing out on a lot of back-story and character development for everyone. PLUS they’re all seriously awesome books and up next is Asa’s turn!

She will also be introducing the dark and sexy world of The Point in a new series this summer starting with Better When He’s Bad. Like her characters, she is a big fan of tattoos. She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she'll settle for writing stories with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.
