Beautiful Lies shall we? Now, I’m noticing a bit of a trend going on lately
in the romance genre with the whole ‘no choice but to sell my virginity’
storyline for heroines these days – but let me reassure you - Kendall’s story
for Sophie was refreshing and unique!
While it would have been easy for Kendall to fall into some
of the cliques that could have come with this storyline of a girl feeling she
has no other choice but to auction off her virginity and then ends up having
feelings for the man who bought her virginity – she didn’t let me down and kept
her the story rich and interesting!
Kendall knows how to pull you into her story right from the
beginning and not let you go. I also (and very regularly) call her a tease
because well – she is! Filthy Beautiful
Lies is the first in a trilogy. So guess what that means?...
If you guessed CLIFFHANGER – you would be right. However,
believe it or not I actually knew going into this one there would probably be a
cliffy – so I was prepared. AND – the second book comes out next month and not
in a year – so all is well in the not sending Kendall threatening tweets as she
apparently knows how well I handle sequels taking too long to come out.
So let’s talk about Colton, our hero for a second –
Colton kind of wins a few points for me just because his
personality and dialog is written to be really believable (for me anyways) as a
guy’s point-of-view. Kendall does a really good job on getting into a guy’s
head and making him come to life. I don’t think it’s instant love with Sophie
for Colton. I think it’s more of Colton finding Sophie easy to read and trying
to approach Sophie and their situation as best he can.
But of course – this a romance novel after all – he starts
to have feelings for her. ;)
