Title: Star Struck
Series: Lights, Camera Companion
Author: Laurelin Paige
Publisher: Samhain
Publication Date: June 17, 2014
Onto every diva’s backside, a little wood must fall.Lights, Camera, Book 2 Hollywood actress Heather Wainwright was looking forward to a long, relaxing break before starting her next shoot. Except her assistant volunteered her for L.A.’s annual 24 Hour Plays. Nervous about doing a good job for such a worthy charity, Heather falls back on “diva” mode, a defense mechanism that always carries her through. Until she encounters something that really gets on her nerves—a lowly carpenter whose Norse god eyes pierce right through her. Highly sought-after production designer Seth Rafferty has little patience for A-listers with superior attitudes, which is why his attraction to Heather is absurd. Yet, sensing vulnerability beneath her screen-queen act, he lets her assumptions play out. After the wrap party, Heather awakens with little memory of the night before—except that Seth gave her the best orgasm of her life, then disappeared. When he shows up on the set of her next movie, she winds up to give him a piece of her mind…and Seth shows her just how stinging hot “chemistry” can get. Warning: Contains an outwardly snobby actress with a good heart, a delicious carpenter with a power drill, some much-deserved spanking, and an appropriately consensual—if tipsy—orgasm, as well as sex at an inappropriate time of the month.
**Although
this is book two in the Lights, Camera series, you do NOT need to read book one
in order to read book two. They are both STANDALONE novels. But, it is
recommended**
I think everyone knows I’m in love with Laurelin
Paige and all her books. Seriously. And Star
Struck is no exception. Here we get to delve deeper into Heather Wainwright’s
life and watch her fall in love. We first met Heather on the set of Micha’s
movie in book one, Take Two. She was
his costar who propositioned him for sex, but he turned her down for Maddie. It
turns out that Heather is a hell of a lot more complicated than just a pretty
face with blonde hair, a body that just won’t quit, sex appeal, awesome acting,
and a diva reputation.
“Which is really what I meant when I said it
feels like I’ve waited a lifetime. I didn’t just mean this week or this
morning—I meant I’ve literally spent my whole life waiting for someone to call
me out and pull me in all at the same time. Does that make any sense?”
I was pleasantly surprised by Star Struck and Heather. I always like it when one of the
characters we weren’t supposed to like in one of the previous books in the
series steals the spotlight and shows us why we should actually love them. Heather
has a crappy past. She was kicked out at sixteen by her drug addict dad while
her alcoholic mother was passed out. And from then on she’s worked hard to
become the A-list Hollywood actress that she is known as today. Only problem
is, she has to hide her past and have a snotty personality to maintain it. But,
underneath the ice princess exterior, there’s just a girl who’s scared of her
past and terrified of letting people in—because letting people in gives them
the power to hurt you.
“Heather, stop!” But now she was where he
dreamed of having her—naked and underneath him, her sexy body soft and
submissive. And when she stared up at him under hooded lids, desire brimming in
her eyes, the battle was lost. With a growl that was half frustration, half
lust he said, “When I fuck, I take the lead.”
She meets Seth out of nowhere. They are set to do
a project together. And they immediately feel the sparks of attraction between
them. But, Heather soon mistakes him to be a set carpenter and has to distance
herself from him. After all, a huge celebrity like Heather Wainwright cannot be
associated with Seth the Carpenter. Turns out, Seth is actually a production
designer who is nominated for an Oscar. But, he chooses to keep this fact a
secret and play along with Heather’s assumption. And in turn, he assumes she is
the diva that everyone else believes her to be. And thus begins their sizzling
hot enemies to lovers story…
“But when she’d sat next to him and they’d
talked, he saw glimmers of it again—pieces of a fragile soul he sensed she kept
hidden from other people. A longing to drop the I-got-it-going-on persona and
instead let someone else take charge. And oh, what he’d do to her—for her—if he
was in charge of her.”
The sexual tension between Seth and Heather is
almost flammable for half of the story. Their bodies desperately want each
other, but their minds want to hate each other. And what do we get? Kisses
given without permission, spanking, stolen moments… All the good stuff. Then,
we know it only has to get better from there. Seth is a dream come true. He’s
as alpha male and dominating in the bedroom as all of Laurelin Paige’s book
boys have to be. Watching Heather let herself go when she’s with Seth and
explore kinky sex is amusing until we’re suddenly fanning ourselves from the
hotness of it all. This was definitely a burning hot read that you won’t want
to miss. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, sexy
read.
“I love you, Heather Wainwright. No matter what happens. Everything I’ve done since I’ve met you has been for you.”
About Laurelin: Laurelin Paige is the NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of the Fixed Trilogy. She's a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there's kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn't seem to complain, however. When she isn't reading or writing sexy stories, she's probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine.
