From #1 New York Times Bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes the third book in the bestselling Eagle Elite Series...
“As burns this saint, so burns my soul. I enter alive, and I will have to get out dead.”
Chase Winter let the love of his life slip through his fingers and into the hands of his best friend and mafia boss of the Abandanato family. Now that he's been given a second chance to right a wrong--he refuses to let his own selfishness stand in the way. The only problem? He's not fully in possession of his heart, so when Mil De Lange, the girl who's innocence he stole, and heir to the worst of the worst mafia families in the US, asks him for a favor. He actually says yes, not realizing that that one yes has the power to destroy them all.
Mil's been in love with Chase as long as she can remember, but as the years went by, the love turned to hate, and now that he's agreed to help her, she's wondering if she made a fatal error. Because Chase isn't a teenager anymore. He's a hot blooded male, bent on owning every part of her body and soul, and willing to kill anyone in his path who dares stand in the way.
It's time for secrets to finally be revealed...but make no mistake, it's going to take a lot of bloodshed for those truths to be discovered.
You've never read a New Adult Mafia story like this before...loyalties will be tested, lovers reunited, and friendships obliterated. Welcome to the Family. Blood in--No out.
**WARNING:
may contain spoilers for the first two books in the Eagle Elite series, but this is a SPOILER FREE review
for Entice. Reading the books in
order is highly recommended**
Words cannot express how much I seriously love
this series. Well, I’m in love with all of Rachel Van Dyken’s books. I didn’t
know what to think when I found out that book 3 of the Eagle Elite series would be Chase and Mil’s story, while alternating
POVs between Chase, Mil, Nixon, and Tex. I was mainly Team Nixon by the end of
book 2, Elect, But now, I’m
definitely Team Nixon, Team Chase, and even Team Tex. Yeah…how did that happen
right? Leave it to RVD to make me fall in love with three men in one book.
“It was petrifying to know that another
human being held the very keys to your heart and soul. Helpless. It left you
defenseless, because the control shifted into another person’s hands, and you
had to decide just how trustworthy those hands were. Only it didn’t matter,
because in the end, if the hands dropped the key, if they messed up—even once—your
heart was already lost, never to be unlocked again.”
At the end of Elect,
we were left with a pretty huge teaser. Mil is suddenly asking Chase to marry
her? What the hell, right? All we really knew about Mil was that she was
Phoenix’s sister and that she and Chase had lost their virginity to each other.
But, of course Chase says yes and that’s where Entice starts off. It’s their wedding day but it also feels like a
death sentence for Chase and Mil. At this point, they can barely stand each
other. However, they will do what they have to in order to stay alive and keep
their families safe.
“Mine, That was mine. She’d been mine since
I was fourteen. She’d been mine since the first time I kissed her. I was the
first to explore those breasts, to kiss that neck, and I’d be damned if anyone
else would ever get the opportunity to touch what was mine again. Mine. Mine.
Mine.”
It turns out Mil asks to marry Chase for more than
what she initially lets on. I mean, obviously, this is a book about mafia
families and romance. It takes a while for Mil to open up to Chase, but all the
fun in this book was watching them try to deny their attraction to each other,
and then they eventually realize how much they love each other. That’s not a
spoiler, btw—you knew that had to happen. I love, love, love how we kept
finding out more secrets about Mil and Chase and the rest of our favorite mafia
members throughout the course of the entire book. We don’t truly know Mil until
the end.
“Had I met Mil all over again and hadn’t had
my heart stomped on, I wouldn’t have treasured her as much as I did now. That’s
what she was to me. She was a treasure. One thing I wanted to keep for myself,
one I would die saving. If it was the last thing I did.”
I don’t know who I love more as a heroine—Mil or
Trace. Mil is pretty hardcore. She becomes the head of her family. A freaking
mafia family! That’s scary and a lot of pressure, but she handles it more than
fantastically. I found her to be really strong, and I was surprised at how dark
some of her past was. Chase is even hotter with Mil than he was with Trace. He’s
so raw and alpha that I was seriously swooning and sighing over him. He’s uber
protective and just so male—I freaking loved it. So. Much. Swooning. Seriously.
“You could have died. And you were willing to
take every part of me with you to that grave. I wouldn’t have moved on. I
couldn’t have. While I love Chase, it was never the love I had for you Nixon.
So although I don’t blame you, a part of me still hates you for gambling not
just your life, but mine too.”
I was really surprised and how much Nixon and Trace
we get to see in this book. And I was even more surprised at how much Tex we
are exposed to as well. Trace and Nixon are a bit shaken by the crazy fake
death stunt he pulled. We find out just how hard it hit Trace and we see how
Nixon, crazy in love with Trace as he is, learns to understand just how much
his “death” affected Trace. They broke my heart twice, but I think the Nixon
and Trace fans (MEEEE!) are very satisfied with their story. And, oh Tex… I
need to see more of you. Stat. He has so many facets to him and he’s oh so very
complicated. And very in love with Mo. I can’t wait for his story. Honestly, if
you haven’t read any of these books, you’re freaking crazy. It’s my favorite
RVD series. Who doesn’t love a hot mafia romance story?
“I don’t even know how it happened, how she’s
maneuvered her way into my soul, how she’d mad it so that I was overcome with
madness for her—a type of obsession that I never wanted to be done with. She
had destroyed me, and in my destruction, I’d found my salvation.”
