REVIEW - Landslide by NJ Cole

Release Date: August 4, 2013

After I read Midnight Caller a while back by NJ Cole, I became an instant fan. Midnight Caller was this super sexy and steamy romance with a little bit of a paranormal element to it. I read the first chapter on her website and have been hooked ever since! So when I found out NJ Cole had another book for me to read, Landslide, I jumped all over the chance to get it in my hands as soon as I could!

Now that I’ve stated how much I’ve grown to love NJ Cole, let’s talk about Landslide. First of all, that fact that the heroine, Kenzie, is only 19 and the hero, Max, is 35 kind of threw me a little bit. Also let’s add in the fact that he calls her “little girl” and has her calling him “daddy”. THEN on top of that, she is also his best friend’s daughter.

However, it wouldn’t surprise me if NJ Cole purposely put all these issues in this book just to test the readers!

But needless to say, that yes, while I love NJ Cole, I started off this book having some rather heavy reservations with it due to these issues. I almost got scared away during the first chapter. There is no ease into their sexual relationship. It just starts off with a bang, let me tell you.

In chapter 2 we start getting Mackenzie Wade’s point-of-view and suddenly I’m feeling a little bit better. Only mildly better… but better none the less. She simply finds Senator Maxwell Joseph extremely attractive (and has had a crush on him for many years) and just wants to have some “fun” with him while knowing the relationship will never go anywhere and honestly not expecting anything from him other then hoping for a one night stand.

However, after their first encounter on his birthday they seem to keep craving for other opportunities to get together. They find these opportunities on the 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving…

But it wasn’t until they were together at Christmas that I started really feeling better about their relationship. I think this is the point where they actually started realizing they had stronger feelings for one another and gave each other very meaningful gifts.

But what about his career in politics? Will the public turn against him if they find out about his affair with a 19-year-old. And what about her father? He’s been his best friend for years and has helped get him to the place where he is at in his career.

They can’t possibly ever have a normal relationship, right?

Well, while I started this book have some major concerns in the moral department, I very soon threw those concerns out the window and was rooting for Kenzie and Max to find a way to be together! After they sneakily find a way to spend a vacation in Paris together, I was done for. They need to be together. The end.

However, it wasn’t that simple. I won’t lie; I had some tears before it as all over. And they weren’t all happy tears. There was some gut wrenching and tearing my heart out for this couple. If they wanted to be together in the end, they were going to have to fight for it. If Max really wanted to be with Kenzie, he was going to have to risk everything in order to have her.

I highly recommend that everyone give Landslide a chance! It will test your morals a little bit, but at the end of the day you can’t help who you fall in love with can you?

NJ Cole is a witty, mid-western girl with a kinky side. She works by day and writes by night, all while being a mother to her wonderful boys and serving her Sir. Unlike many of today’s authors, she chooses to write in first person, allowing the readers to experience life through the eyes of the unique characters that live in her head. Her love of those characters and respect for their stories come through loud and clear in her writing. With over two million reads of her online work in the past six months, NJ Cole is clearly an up and coming author.
