REVIEW - Friend-Zoned by Belle Aurora

As soon as I saw the title of this book, I knew I had to one-click it. How could I not? Friend-zoned equals sexual tension. Lots of it. Have you noticed how all the good books have lots of sexual tension and evoke strong emotions? Well I have and I predicted this book to be a dead-ringer as a new favorite because of them. The story seems relatively simple. Tina manages (while also secretly owning) a boutique which is across from Nik’s club. She observes that he doesn’t ever smile and her innocent to anonymously bring one out of him makes them friends. Or rather, Tina decides to integrate herself into his life as a friend. However, their physical attraction is too intense to be ignored.
Friend-Zoned is actually not simple at all though. I think it is safe to say that this book has every type of problem or drama that you could possibly think of. I don’t want to name them all because I obviously don’t want to spoil everything, but whew this book was a rollercoaster. One of the main problems was Tina’s reluctance to ever get involved with a man again after what happened to her ex and some other family issues. Nik plays the bad boy with the heart that Tina brings out for the world to see. And, of course, there’s a whole lot of miscommunications on both parts, which means that they don’t even get together until a little after halfway through the book. That gets a bit frustrating, but the characters have understandable problems.
Another thing I loved about this story was how family was a huge concept. Nik has his big family which is not all immediate family. There are his cousins, his friends, his adorable niece, his mom, his sisters, and then he even used to be part of a mob by default because of his father. Tina has a small family of which only one is blood relation, being her father. Aside from that, she has her best friend and two other coworkers. The reason for her small family is understood throughout the story. But the amazing part is, both their families merge into one through Tina’s magnetism and her friendship with Nik.
Now about the two main characters… I loved Tina! At the beginning of the book she seems just so happy-go-lucky (which she is) and naïve (which she isn’t most of the time). She is humble and sweet, but from the get go we can already see she has been through some very rough times. I almost cried when I read what happened to her in the past; and like the other characters in the book, I was amazed by her ability to even get up in the morning, much less make herself and those around her as happy as she does. She is so strong. Granted, reluctance towards getting into a relationship irked me after a while, but the end justifies the means. Besides, she has legitimate reasons to try to not fall in love. It’s just a little ridiculous how long it took her to see that it was too late for her and Nik; they had something going on from the beginning. And then we have Nik. He is so hot and a romantic when it comes to Tina. He wasn’t exactly a playboy in the beginning, but he only had sexual relationships with women. However, Tina charges into his life and turns it upside down! He’s never had a friend, especially not someone as sweet and beautiful as Tina. Then she friend-zoned him. Now he’s a guy, so we can cut him some slack on the misunderstandings, but really? He didn’t fight his feelings for Tina as much as she did, nevertheless, it still took an abnormally long time for them to get together. They are so perfect together! They take care of each other, they understand each other, they protect each other and most importantly, they were best friends before anything.
I was expecting a light read, but this story hit me hard emotionally. I loved the length of the novel, it made room for more events and a deeper storyline. There were some things that threw me off, like the whole mob aspect that especially played a big part in the ending, yet I still loved this book. Wow, the ending was intense and took me by surprise. To be honest, a lot of the plot did surprise me. It was an intense read and definite page-turner. Look out for the sequel coming soon on Natalie and Ghost/Asher’s story!

At an early age she fell in love with reading. Boredom one summer had her scouring the bookshelves at home. She stumbled across Sandra Brown’s Breath of Scandal and fell in love with romance.
Having been brought up in a loud and boisterous family of Croatian descent, she developed a natural love for dramatics and humor. Only some years ago had she discovered a new love.
Humorous romance novels.
Kristen Ashley and R.L. Mathewson had opened a brand new world where she could lose herself yet feel safe and at home in their stories. Belle has been known to become a screeching banshee while anxiously awaiting their newest titles.
Belle never thought she would write. It had never interested her until recently. Friend-Zoned began to form and in February this year Belle typed the words Chapter One. And she fell in love.
