Danika is a nanny for a family in Las Vegas. She is not the average 22 year-old, and the reason for that remains a mystery for a while. We immediately meet Tristan, who ends up staying at the house for supposedly just a week. There is an instant attraction between the two, I mean, how could there not be? They’re both ridiculously beautiful people. Not to mention, Tristan is charismatic as hell and Danika is pretty mysterious. There’s just one problem: they can’t be together. Danika doesn’t do one night stands or friends with benefits. And since she is forever picking bad boyfriends, she has chosen to stay single for a while. Not to mention, she thinks Tristan has trouble written all over his finely built and tattooed body. Tristan, on the other hand, doesn’t do relationships. They eventually come to a mutual agreement banning sex. It’s a terrible idea, but it makes for a great story. After all, who doesn’t love some angst and page-burning sexual tension?
They have such an easy relationship. After not only an hour, Tristan and Danika act like they’ve known each other their whole lives. The plot quickly falls into a pattern. They take care of the kids by day, and go out clubbing every night. In between, they become best friends and fight their hardest to restrain from screwing each other’s brains out. Life could be worse. Of course, there are a few steamy incidents. The build-up towards the predictable get together is insane, and chalk full of drama. I loved it. The more torture, the greater the pay-off.
Danika is beautiful in an exotic way. Before Tristan barged into her life, she did not live a normal life. Tristan brings her out of her shell. She loves to dance, and boy do they have some hot dance scenes. She is caring and strong. She is no longer in contact with her family, and we soon find out why. Danika has had a rough past which explains her quiet life pre-Tristan. But, Tristan brings out the best in her. Danika does the same for Tristan. He is a club-promoter who has more than a few magic tricks up his sleeve. Oh, did I mention that he is also a singer in a band? And has an equally hot younger brother that we get to meet? Tristan is insanely charming, and a classic playboy act. Well, before Danika of course. When he is with Danika, a side of Tristan that the world has never seen before comes out. He is kind, compassionate, and romantic. He is not a dom yet, but it is hinted that he soon will be since that is what suits their relationship best (also James tells Bianca he is a dom in Grounded).
I loved seeing new characters and even characters that we have seen before from the Up In The Air series. For example, Frankie, the lesbian dom and good friend of James Cavendish, quickly becomes Danika’s best friend in Bad Things. And of course, we get quite a few appearances from Mr. Beautiful himself *swoons*. It is interesting to see how he is way before Bianca, and to see his relationship with Tristan and Danika develop.
Danika and Tristan have one of those passionate, destructive relationships. This means that they love each other immensely. When things are good between them, everything is on fire. But, when things are bad for them, everyone within a fifty mile radius needs to evacuate. That being said, Tristan and Danika’s story is just as addicting as R.K. Lilley’s Up In The Air series. Bad Things has a bittersweet ending. No spoilers! Their relationship does have a happily ever after, but we are still left wondering how they got to how they were portrayed in Grounded. Plus, that teaser for Rock Bottom is pretty brutal. Love R.K. Lilley and her sexy books! Can’t wait for the next one!
